What is therapy like with me? I strongly believe in a person’s inherent strengths and expertise in the healing process. I also believe in the importance of human relationship and see that as an integral part of the healing process. I provide trauma-informed care, knowing that most presenting concerns are related to a traumatic interactions in the past or present. I use a variety of evidence based practice to guide a person to a place where they can thrive. These modalities are Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused, Narrative and ACT among others.
I have always been interested in understanding people and how they interact and function. Early on in life, I was introduced to the foster adopt system by a friend and met families who struggled to care for their children, and children too troubled by trauma to function well. I discovered that there was little understanding about attachment and how to treat the families and help them all heal. I wanted to understand this phenomenon better, I decided to pursue my degree and become a therapist. What I learned over time was that most intrapersonal pain (depression, anxiety, stress etc.) is caused by disrupted attachments.
I most enjoy working with women 30+ and couples who offten present with some form of insecure attachment and elements of trauma related to their attachment figures. I have taken this passion to help others and work both with clients as well as teaching as a college professor on several mental health topics.
I live in a small rural community with my husband, three dogs and 10 sheep. We are in the process of homesteading and building a small lavender farm. We love everything outdoors and spend out winters cross country skiing and the summers fishing and hiking the mountain ranges exploring alpine lakes.
