Did you know that a study of 36,200 tech workers finds that two in five employees want to quit due to excessive stress, exhaustion, and a broken work-life balance as published by ZDNET?
Many of you in the tech space work long hours, and weekends and have little if any “work-life” balance (shouldn’t it be a “life-work” balance?)

Feeling the Burnout in your Tech Job?
If you are reading this, my guess is that you are feeling burnout yourself as a tech industry employee and maybe even feel like you are in a rat race spinning your wheels day in and day out. I spent 20+ years in the technology space before becoming a psychotherapist and can empathize with this sentiment acutely. The burnout is real! The challenge is that many of you are stuck in these high-paying jobs with “golden handcuffs” and a life often built around the pay you receive, creating a feeling like you don’t have much of a choice but to suck it up and keep going. This can lead to a variety of feelings such as hopelessness, stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges that impact you personally and your relationships in addition to an overwhelming feeling of being done and burned out which is like walking through quicksand and slowly erodes at what well being you feel you have left.
What is Burnout?
“Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands.”
Does this sound familiar to you?
Therapy can help! When working with a therapist who acutely understands the effects of burnout, you can begin to strive toward better work-life balance, and healthier boundaries and get a bit of distance from the work itself to talk through how to create more of the life you want either in the framework of the tech industry our outside it. Therapy can work through what the blocks are, what is keep you feeling stuck and burnt out and how to move through this.
