About Dannie
I entered the therapy field because I have a genuine interest in mental health and supporting underserved areas. I began my education in psychology, added a focus on social work, and included courses in environmental health. Relationship to place, belonging, systems, and environment are part of the holistic approach to mental health that I choose to practice. I understand how impactful and important it is to have a safe space when you need it most. I know this personally as a person who identifies as part of multiple minority communities living in society. I am aware of the challenges that folks face everyday and how stressful daily life can be.
My thoughts are that therapy should be a nonjudgmental space that, when you are in that dark place, tough spot, crisis, or life transition, can help you to find hope and healing. My goal is to listen and navigate coping strategies that will support your goals for your life. As a young person, I knew that I wanted to be a part of that support for others. I also knew that my listening skills and lived experience would serve as a representative and reality informed option. I strongly believe in caring for my community, caring for others, and the earth. Having the honor to hold space, listen, and assist people as they navigate their journeys of caring for their mental health is central to what brought me here to work with you.
I used best practices in tandem with culturally supportive therapies that center the goals of the client. My approach is to clarify and support the path that the client wants to be on and collaborate on what is needed to facilitate it. I have a social justice lens that strives to align with practices that decolonize therapy and offer it in a way that respects and values client experiences, culture, traditions, and beliefs. My approach is holistic and includes consideration of somatic treatments.
The clients that I work with are generally couples trying to navigate a new challenge in their life. I have skills working with adult clients who are bereaved and have experienced loss and trauma. Also clients who are DSG (Diverse Sexuality and Gender) and folks who are Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, and Arab. I also have skills for working with perinatal individuals and their partners.
Outside the office I like to connect with my community and environment. Movement activities with a good audiobook or podcast is a favorite pastime of mine, walking, hiking, or a fitness routine. I make baked goods often and love to cook, which connects me to my cultural roots and allows me to have a creative outlet and if all goes well produces delicious food.
