About Marte

Wondering what therapy with me is like? I firmly believe in harnessing a person's innate strengths and their expertise in their healing journey. Furthermore, I recognize the vital role of human connection in the healing process. I provide trauma-informed care, acknowledging that many presenting concerns are rooted in past or present traumatic experiences. My approach draws from a range of evidence-based practices, guiding individuals towards a place where they can thrive. These modalities include Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), among others.

My enduring interest in comprehending human behavior and interactions began early in life. Through a friend, I was introduced to the foster and adoptive system, where I encountered families struggling to care for their children and children deeply affected by trauma, making it difficult for them to function effectively. This exposure highlighted the limited understanding of attachment dynamics and effective treatment approaches for these families. In my quest for a deeper understanding, I decided to pursue my degree and become a therapist. Over time, I've come to understand that much intrapersonal pain, such as depression, anxiety, and stress, stems from disrupted attachments.

I find the most fulfillment in working with women aged 30 and above, as well as couples who often grapple with insecure attachment patterns or trauma linked to their attachment figures. I have channeled this passion into assisting others, both through my work with clients and as a college professor, where I educate on various mental health topics.

I reside in a quaint rural community with my husband, three dogs, and a flock of 10 sheep. We are currently engaged in homesteading and developing a small lavender farm. Our love for the outdoors is palpable; we spend our winters cross-country skiing and our summers fishing and hiking in the mountain ranges, exploring alpine lakes and embracing the beauty of nature.
