About Shanie
Clients have described working with me as feeling deeply seen, accepted, and supported without judgment. I strive to create the kind of relationship where you can bring all of yourself into the room—the messy parts, the hurting parts, the hopeful parts, and even the parts you may have spent years trying to hide.
My approach is warm, engaged, and deeply human. We'll talk, explore, sometimes laugh, sometimes sit with difficult things, and when words aren't enough, we can work with the body and nervous system through EMDR, somatic practices, mindfulness, and other mind-body approaches.
I do my best work with teens and adults navigating trauma and PTSD, particularly survivors of sexual trauma, as well as those experiencing anxiety, chronic stress, depression, grief, and major life transitions. I especially connect with clients who are ready to move beyond simply coping and begin feeling safer, more connected, and more at home in themselves.
Beyond the therapy room, I'm happiest when I'm outside and a little dirty. I live on a small farm with my husband and our wonderfully chaotic crew of goats, chickens, guinea fowl, dogs, and cats. Animals, nature, and movement are a huge part of my life.
I've also spent much of my life in the mountains. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a professional big-mountain skier and guide, and that love of adventure has never really left me. I still love skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and traveling.
